Major Project: Remotely Controlled Vehicle

During the Fall 2019 semester, I led a project in the lab section of Machine Design & Synthesis where my group was tasked to design and build a machine to pick pool ball up from a bin and transport them to another bin to be awarded points in a challenge.

The end-product performed well in the competition and we received full marks for craftsmanship and design

The machine was designed mostly by me in Solidworks 19 and it was fabricated from stock around the labs by my partner and I over the course of a semester. This project trained us how to think critically and solidify our skills in the workshop as we created the end product from our initial designs. Out of the budgeted $20, we spent $0 of it because of our clever design-work and making use of sheet metal, aluminum stock, electric motors, and gears from around the shop. In the final competition against other lab groups, our machine placed second in the lab section and then advanced to the final competition. This competition strengthened my design skills and helped me understand how to be a better leader in group situations.

This was during a preliminary testing phase. I was still getting used to the controls so it wasn’t the prettiest driving
